Invited to customize a Mickey to be showcased at the upcoming Singapore Toy and Comics Convention (STGCC 2011) as part of Play Imaginative’s (of Trexis fame) new vinyl toys collaboration with Disney.
Decided to go with a chinese porcelain motif around a dragon character. Had to prime the piece first before using fine paint markers to detail it out. Quite a challenge to get round the grooves, nooks and crannies. Well worth it though.
had the honour of contributing to the fun pack design. having grown up watching the skyline change at an unerring rate, i am amazed and proud of the exact and deliberate planning that goes into shaping our cityscape as well as the sheer speed with which this tiny red dot is growing both in terms of infrastructure as well as presence. so i decided the visual should be done in a continuous line to represent the collective and unceasing effort we have put in. coincidentally the straits times, singapore’s main newspaper, carried the photo-story on the front page along with a separate article on MAS (monetary authority of singapore). what are the odds, eh?
very interesting live doodling event. the premise of the launch was to promote the tranquility and quality time driving the 508 affords you. so the idea behind the live doodling was to get participants to doodle their frustrations and i had to convert these doodles of things they dislike into things people will find appealing. click here for photos of the live doodling session. below is a short video i edited of the event.
work in progress for upcoming singpost x wanton doodle ipad2 cover. i usually start off with a pencil sketch before i ink it. the detailing is usually done at this point. after that, i vectorize it before colour treatment and seeing how it would look like on the product.
had barrels of fun sharing with budding illustrators on the abundant possibilities of illustration. the participants even had their works showcased at the national library for over a month and we all went hog-wild doodling up a 17 metre-wide mural. major thanks to national arts council and national arts library for the opportunity. more photos here.
